John T. Burt
Co-Founder, Jumpstart Advisory Group
A native of Indiana, John T. Burt, Jr. graduated with a degree in finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and gained work experience during internships in market research, general management, and corporate finance. Building on accomplishments in Eli Lilly’s finance function, Burt was sponsored to pursue and MBA at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
While at Duke, Burt served as an Executive Fellow to the Dean’s office, post merger integration consultant at Hewlett Packard after the acquisition of Compaq, finance controller of the MBA student body fundraising effort, and won a national competition hosted by the Executive Leadership Council for his commentary on leadership.
After graduation, Burt began his management consulting career as an associate at Booz Allen Hamilton with additional global scoped consulting or finance experiences at Lilly over a 10 year period. From a talent management perspective, Burt served as the Director of Diversity Recruiting for North America at the Boston Consulting Group over a 7 year period.
As one of the two JumpStart Advisory Group co-founders, he is proud of the impact the organization has made to best prepare thousands of next generation leaders from a career progression and professional development standpoint since 2004. JumpStart corporate and academic clientele or partners represent over 30 top tier organizations within the financial services and consulting industries, over 10 large corporations, and over 40 academic institutions.
Burt has been an Adjunct Professor leading courses in finance, accounting, and business strategy. In the community, he currently serves on the Dean’s Council at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, Ron Brown Scholar Advisory Board, and has been involved in multiple task force initiatives at the Oaks Academy. Additionally, he has continued to assist individuals on personal finance Debt Reduction in role as a team coordinator at Traders Point Church. Previously he served as Treasurer and Board Member for Fletcher Place Community Center and Forest Manor Multi-Service Center.
Burt has also been the keynote speaker at several career focused venues, panelist on various career, diversity, or professional development sessions, and featured in national publications. He has been recognized as an Alumni of the Year twice by the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Burt has lived or worked in New York City (New York), Boston (Massachusetts) , Palo Alto (California), Chicago (Illinois), and Indianapolis (Indiana). He currently resides in Indianapolis with his wife and three Children.
Darren L. Henry
Managing Director, Purdue University
Darren Henry is the Managing Director of the Dr. Cornell A. Bell Business Opportunity Program (BOP) at the Krannert School of Management on the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University. Mr. Henry is responsible for the recruitment, retention, professional development, and overall success of students within BOP through programming initiatives on campus, along with partnerships and relationships with educational institutions, alumni, corporations, and community representatives across the country.
Mr. Henry joined the Krannert School in 2007 after completing his MBA from the School in the same year through the BOP program. While completing his MBA, Darren served as the lead course instructor for MGMT 243, “Contemporary Thought of Minorities in Management.” Through the mentoring and coaching of students enrolled in the course, Darren formed strong bonds with undergraduate BOP students which led to his desire to run the program. His leadership of undergraduate students in business continues to garner success, and in 2015, BOP set a new program record for graduation rate (approximately 90%). Additionally, Darren has been recognized for his work with students by multiple organizations including the Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (2011 Sankofa Award Recipient), Channel 18 WLFI West Lafayette (2013 Local Trailblazer Award Recipient), INROADS, Inc. (2014 University Partner Award Recipient – Great Lakes Region), and the 100 Black Men of Indianapolis (2014 Emerging Leader Award Recipient).
Prior to business school, Mr. Henry worked as a consultant for several years in the pharmaceutical industry. Using his participative and transformational leadership styles, Darren advised clients such as BioPort (Lansing, MI), Schering Plough Products (Manatí, Puerto Rico), and Eli Lilly (Indianapolis, IN) on best practices for validation and qualification processes.
Mr. Henry is a member of the National Black MBA Association, the 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, and a board member for the Purdue Black Alumni Organization. In his spare time, Darren enjoys travelling, reading, and relaxing with his parents at their home. He is an undergraduate alumnus of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Rebecca Trainor, MA
Consultant, Jumpstart Advisory Group
Rebecca has been supporting MBA-bound professionals since 1999. She began as a teacher of standardized exams for The Princeton Review and later led the graduate admissions team at The University of British Columbia. She loves how the MBA application process requires each applicant to undergo deep self-reflection and assessment, leading to personal growth. Rebecca is a perpetual student of the English language. She earned a Bachelor of Arts at Tulane University and a Master of Arts at New York University.
Rebecca partnered with the JumpStart Advisory Group for the Path2MBA in 2016 and is excited to be back again.
